Six weeks after we rehomed Alfie, a year old collie cross from Manchester Dogs Home, it felt like we'd made a dreadful mistake.

Walks were a miserable chore with his pulling and meeting other dogs an embarrassment. Local training classes proved useless, so in desperation, I contacted Bark Busters and was visited by Steve Smithson.

Following his instructions, Alfie and I have improved beyond belief, and although it's been hard, frustrating work at times and we still have a long way to go, with Steve's encouragement Alfie is now a pleasure to walk and a dog to be proud of.

We had Andy come to our house and he stayed for about 3 1/2 hours and addressed all our concerns. We felt our dog changed within the few hours of Andy being there and were amazed when we had visitors without the stress.

Superb! Amanda was extremely professional and empathetic. After her first visit, we're so pleased we consulted her! On New Year's Day, we adopted Alfie a 4-5 year old, occasionally snappy rescue dog Lurcher/Terrier cross we think, who was emaciated and had been shut away from contact with people/other dogs. He's loving, lively, fun and a very quick learner but also ignores us/runs away when he smells/sees something more interesting! Our main goals are to be able to take Alfie to the park, let him off lead for a run and know he won't bite anyone or anything; or race off out of sight but come back to us when called, no matter what distractions there are!

Amanda explained that before we can expect Alfie to behave OUTSIDE the home, we have to elicit his respect and make sure he behaves well IN the home first! She showed/instructed the whole family on techniques to practice consistently, for Alfie to treat us with respect, stop on command, stop 'mouthing', barking at the phone/doorbell, jumping up and lead-pulling. All this, with a calm approach and affection as a reward. Alfie's response was and is amazing! THANK YOU, we're looking forward to our next visit in two weeks!

Shovel the greyhound had developed aggressive barking behaviour towards other dogs - he had been attacked last year and got much worse.

I am amazed at the change already! Even other dog owners have commented on his improved behaviour. Thank you so much! We look forward to Andy's return visit - we are planning a walk and introduction to Andy's boxer, something which seemed impossible just last week!
