  • Jumping up at visitors or the dog jumps up at people on walks

Jane is a very pleasant lady with a great deal of patience. She taught us a lot about our dogs and ourselves. Hopefully we will accomplish what she set out for us to do.

J.H., Edenbridge, Kent

With two dogs in the family, there is always more work to do, but these loving owners were determined to do the best for their canine companions. Two dogs often look to each other for reference, instead of the owner, so the dogs were worked sometimes together and sometimes separately. Moving from the human viewpoint to the canine one, the owners were quickly able to communicate to the dogs what behaviours were unacceptable to them by using a language that the dogs could more readily understand. They are lively and loving little dogs and are beginning to listen very well.

Jane is supportive and understanding of our needs to train Rolo - Rolo has responded well with hard work - he is stubborn! For the first time we feel more in charge and understand his behaviour. The cat and Rolo have been in the same room without the cat being chased away - we cannot believe that Rolo sat calmly as commanded whilst the cat walked around in front of him - amazing! Walking on lead has much improved.

J.W., Woodhatch, Surrey

Rolo is a great little dog who, despite his determination to do things his way, responded well when his dedicated owners took over the authority position. He was kept off the sofas and chairs so that his elevated sense of status within the pack was reduced. By being taught to wait respectfully at doorways, particularly at the door to the garden and the front door, until given permission to go through, Rolo is learning to view his owners as true pack leaders. He has great focus and despite that stubborn streak, is a fun little dog to work with!

  • Puppy Management

As first-time dog owners, Jane's firm but kind style of instruction was perfect for us and our dog. Lydia is 12 weeks old and, following Jane's guidance, is now responding when told to stop and is already doing recall and toilet training. We've purchased the gold service as we found the advice invaluable.

K.D., Redhill, Surrey

These devoted owners really stepped up to the plate when realizing what would be required to be a good pack leader for their new pup Lydia. Sometimes it is our human thinking that gets in the way of doing our best for our dog, but these great owners were willing to change whatever was necessary in order to achieve the highest level of good canine communication. Lydia's behaviour is living proof of this. She now no longer attacks the mop, sits quietly when her food is put down and waits for permission to eat it, and is now learning to wait quietly at an appropriate boundary when visitors arrive at the front door. Whilst still being an adorable and playful pup, Lydia is exhibiting a marvellous calm and respectful attitude towards her owners. She can relax secure in the knowledge of their strong leadership. And this is always the best gift you can give your dog: leadership first, with affection coming second.

Very informative and helpful. It has made a real difference to us and to the dog. Jane is a very fair therapist in her comments to us as Noogie's owners.

Fantastic session! The trainer was very professional, yet understanding. We felt a little silly doing the BAH, but once we noticed it working, we built a little confidence. Trainer made us feel at ease and not like naughty schoolkids. Really enjoyed learning about the pack and look forward to our next session.

B.H., Horley, Surrey

I always love puppy management sessions as it is wonderful to meet people wanting to raise their puppy properly right from the start. These enthusiastic owners found that adopting a pack mentality was invaluable for giving the proper pack leader signals to their pup. Their dedication to being firm and unequivocal about pack rules is already paying dividends as Puppy happily learns to follow their guidance.

  • Barking at people, dogs, animals, birds or where the dog barks for attention or at the slightest noise
  • Recall or not coming when called

By the end of our first session with our therapist, we could already see a change in our dog's behaviour. As the week passed, we were amazed at how quickly the changes continued to come, apart from the odd relapse.

J.R.A., Ifield, West Sussex

This dog is wonderfully loving and affectionate, and quite irresistably handsome, but has used these very qualities to effectively train his owners to do what HE wants! Now this lovely dog's streak of stubbornness is more than matched by the determination of his owners that he will learn some manners and indeed, he is responding very well to the training. Duties that the dog thought were his - guarding at the window, barking at passers-by, taking control of the front door - are now being taken away from him and he is gradually developing a more healthy attitude of respect for his pack leaders.

  • Aggression to a dog or other animal or where the dog is aggressive to the owner or a stranger
  • Barking at people, dogs, animals, birds or where the dog barks for attention or at the slightest noise

Until Jane arrived and corrected us, we thought we were the pack leaders to our one year old brother and sister GSD/Retriever pups (how wrong were we). But after just two visits and with her guidance, we are now! The control we have gained with Jane's training of both us and the dogs has had an amazing effect and we are most grateful to her for showing us the way. Many thanks Jane.

It was great to work with two such clued-up dog owners who were already doing so much right. Most of the problems being experienced - barking, dog aggression - were simply due to inconsistency. Although behaving like pack leaders in some areas, the owners didn't always give a clear message to these two beautiful intelligent pups. Inconsistency is viewed in the canine world as weak energy - not the sign of a true pack leader. Once the owners were taught to speak "Dog", communication improved dramatically and the pups understood their correct position in the pack. Their improved behaviour began to reflect this.

We found Jane to be extremely helpful and very supportive. Archie's behaviour changed almost immediately and with continued training in the garden - we very rarely have issues with barking now. Overall, extremely happy that we contacted Bark Busters with a problem we had no clue how to correct. Thanks Jane.

J.M.K., Bookham, Surrey

Many times we are unwittingly telling our dog to do the very thing that we don't want. Archie had been permitted vantage points in the house from where he would "keep guard" and thus also thought it his duty to guard the fence in the garden from passers-by with much fierce barking. The moment the owners understood this and demoted Archie from his job by telling him, in clear pack leader language, that THEY were in charge, Archie was happy to step down. It's always inspiring to work with owners who instantly translate their new understanding into action and thus create a better balance of energy, a quieter household and, most important of all, a happier more relaxed dog!

  • Aggression to a dog or other animal or where the dog is aggressive to the owner or a stranger
  • Barking at people, dogs, animals, birds or where the dog barks for attention or at the slightest noise

It was so helpful to have things explained/demonstrated/practised for my husband and myself. It gave us confidence that we were both applying the same rules/training, thus being consistent with our dog. The training aids given us are really useful. Our dog has responded immediately, almost relieved that the pack leaders are finally doing their job of being in charge! Jane is returning in two weeks - I'm actually looking forward to sharing the progress we have made. There is still room for improvement though, in both dog and owners!

L.B., Loxwood, West Sussex

This beautiful young dog was under the impression that its job was to bark at other dogs and to generally take responsibility for areas that really belonged to the pack leaders. Once the owners understood what was going on and "demoted" their pet, the dog did indeed appear almost relieved and happy that it could just relax and be a dog!
