Dog Obedience Trainer & Behavioural Therapist

2nd February 2010

  • Hyperactivity
  • Pulling on the Lead

The techniques were explained fully and even within hours we had seen an improvement in Alfie's behaviour. Looking forward to the next session. We feel we have a more relaxed dog already.

G.&L.H., Maidenbower, West Sussex

The owners were determined to do the best for Alfie and he responded wonderfully to the training. Once his owners were communicating in a clear and unequivocal manner that THEY were the pack leaders, Alfie relaxed and immediately started showing proper respect. He is a great little dog and is doing well!

Jane was extremely clear about why and what to do. She certainly was able to control Ozzie and pass on valuable training information to me and my daughter at this session. Three and a half hours was very intense; perhaps you could consider two shorter sessions closely together in time.

J.D., Three Bridges, West Sussex

Ozzie, like most puppies, had bags of energy and also his own ideas of the way things should be done! The owner quickly understood the kind of leadership that Ozzie needed and Ozzie responded well to the first exercises we conducted. The sessions can be quite intense as there is a lot of information to be passed on, but they are a lot of fun too and I always leave handouts, training tips, homework notes and lots of information for later reference by the owner.

Early days yet, but can see some progress already after two weeks.

  • Aggression to a dog or other animal or where the dog is aggressive to the owner or a stranger

I have been very impressed with the training so far and cannot believe what a big difference the little things make. I have had dogs all my life and wish I had found Bark Busters years ago. Some of the problems I have had with other dogs that took months to fix could have been sorted in days, even hours. I enjoy the training and more importantly, so do the dogs - almost as much as their balls! Now I have been trained to be the pack leader, the next step is meeting other dogs in a much friendlier manner.

K.B., Redhill, Surrey

This owner of two mature dogs was keen that they enjoy a good relationship. With diligent practice of the simple rules, body language and exercises required to teach the dogs who their real leader is, the owner has enabled the dogs to start relaxing with one another and reduce aggression. Work will be done now outside on the leash to ensure that the dogs listen only to the owner and meet any other dogs they may encounter with calmness and obedience.

I contacted Bark Busters because of the lack of control we have on both recall and barking in the garden when not at home. Kara also pulled on the lead and lurched at cats and dogs when walking. Within one week Kara is showing good signs of improvement. Jane was excellent and very clear in all her advice. I look forward to owning a calm controlled dog very soon.

S.S., Broadfield, West Sussex

Kara is a very fortunate dog who has owners dedicated to becoming great pack leaders for her. Various exercises were done with her in the house and garden to show her that her role is one of subordinate and that it is not her job to bark at things in the garden. Now Kara is learning to walk calmly on the leash, focussing on her pack leaders rather than on cats and dogs that she might meet. At the end of the first session, Kara took herself off to her bed and gave a huge contented sigh of relief that the responsibility for running the pack was no longer hers!

I have tried two different Dog Training Instructors with Stella, both with no success. I was at the end of my tether with Stella's unpredictable aggression and bad behaviour. Then I found Jane Aylott from Bark Busters and what a change this has been.

On the first visit from Jane, she experienced some of Stella's aggression. She recommended change of diet and some training techniques. My husband and I worked on this for two weeks and when Jane returned after 14 days, she saw NO aggression whatsoever. I am sure she thought she was visiting a different dog.

On Jane's second visit, we worked on the fact that Stella walks me, not me walking Stella. The next day I took Stella out for a walk for the first time in 6 months as she has always walked me!

Stella is a rescue dog from Greece who has lived rough and has come to me with many issues. She only has three legs and I thought I would never be able to help Stella with her problems, but after just two weeks the difference is incredible.

I would recommend Bark Busters to any dog owner with troubles. DON'T DELAY, CALL TODAY!

S.&G.B., West Hoathly, West Sussex

Stella is a very lucky dog indeed whose owners realized from the start that affection alone would not be enough to rehabilitate her. Stella had spent most of her life surviving as a stray in Greece. Aggression was probably her survival mechanism. My leg nearly learned this first hand! With enormous devotion, Stella's owners have followed the simple rules and practised the required exercises to show Stella that she is not the leader of the pack and therefore it is not her job to decide which visitors are permitted to be in the house and which are not. It has been marvellous to see Stella start to relax at last in her new home and really begin to enjoy life. She responded well to work on the leash and is now overcoming her phobia of passing cars, which probably originated from the car accident which cost her her leg. I am confident that the consistency and clear leadership shown by Stella's owners will produce the rehabilitation and happiness that they so much desire for her.

I didn't expect to see results so quickly; it was a real eye-opener to see how small changes can make such a big impression on your dogs. The thing that amazed me the most was how my older more dominant dog changed from being very territorial to a calm respectful sweetheart and that was just from the first visit.

I really enjoyed the training and am looking forward to the next session so I can go to the next level.

T.B., Horsham, West Sussex

These two dogs are lucky to have a dedicated owner who has spent a lot of time on their training. The dominant older dog, however, believed that he owned the front door and he would bark nonstop when the bell rang. He would also bark in the car on journeys. The younger dog, shyer in character, would nevertheless rush the front door when visitors arrived. By the end of the session, both dogs were waiting calmly and quietly while their owner answered the front door and the older dog had relaxed and was enjoying a PEACEFUL car journey! Time now, at the next session, to take this excellent foundation of respect for the owner as pack leader out into the outside world ready for meeting other dogs.
