Dog Training Therapist, Nicki Platt, set off on the trip of a lifetime to help a rescued dog start a new life in Bermuda.

Nicky Platt, 38, decided to foster Boxer Cleo after the pooch was given to dog charity Boxer Rescue Northern England because her owners could no longer care for her.

Meanwhile across the world in Bermuda, school governor Brian Weakly and his family were searching for a new dog having recently lost their own beloved Boxer.

The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals in Bermuda got involved and, after a home check on the Weakly family, arranged for them to take in Cleo.

To get around the tricky logistics of getting a dog safely and peacefully from one country to another, dog training company Bark Busters, agreed to sponsor her to make the trip as well.

Jetting off, Nicky spent four days helping Cleo settle in, offering advice to the Weakly family on the dog’s likes and dislikes, and giving basic training to ensure she has the best start.

Nicky said: “Cleo is a great dog – she’s been the perfect foster pet and I’ll be sad to see her go.

“She’s also quite a character and has recently mastered the art of opening doors.”
