Home Dog Behaviour Training in Chelmsford

Personal Dog Training in Your Home
One-to-one dog behaviour training in your home, tailored to your dog, your family and the problems you're experiencing.
Welcome to Bark Busters Dog Training Chelmsford, I am Sydney Coleman, your local Bark Busters dog behaviour therapist and trainer. I provide one-to-one home dog behaviour training in Chelmsford and surrounding areas, helping dog owners better understand why their dog's behaviour is happening and what they can do to improve it.
Rather than taking your dog somewhere else to train, I work with you and your dog in your own home and everyday environment, where the root cause of the behaviour problems actually happens.
Dog Training That Comes to You
Every dog and every household is different. That's why Bark Busters uses a tailored approach rather than a one-size-fits-all method that tries to fit every dog into the same training programme. I will assess your dog's behaviour, identify the situations causing problems, and show you practical techniques you can use in everyday life.
Dog Behaviour Problems We Help With in Chelmsford
Whether you have a young puppy or an older dog whose behaviour has changed, I can help with a wide range of common and challenging dog behaviour problems.
Dog Aggression - Aggressive behaviour can be frightening and stressful for dog owners. I can help you understand the triggers behind your dog's aggression and develop practical strategies to manage and improve the behaviour.
Reactive Dog Training - Does your dog lunge, growl, or become difficult to control around other dogs, people or unfamiliar situations? My personal behaviour training can help you understand your dog's reactions and work towards calmer responses.
Excessive Barking - Persistent barking can affect your household, your neighbours, and your relationship with your dog. I identify why your dog is barking and help you develop practical ways to reduce unwanted barking.
Separation Anxiety - Does your dog become distressed when you leave the house? Separation-related behaviour can include whining, destruction, pacing and trying to escape. I can help you understand the underlying problem and create a structured approach to improving your dog's ability to settle when alone.
Pulling on the lead - Walks shouldn't feel like a battle. If your dog constantly pulls, spins, bites the lead, or refuses to walk calmly, I can help you develop better walking behaviour and give you practical techniques for everyday walks.
Recall Problems - Does your dog ignore you when called? Reliable recall is very important for your dog's safety and your confidence when exercising them. I can help you build better communication and improve your dog's response to your recall cues.
Resource Guarding - Does your dog growl, snap, or become defensive around food, toys, beds or other possessions? Resource guarding should be taken seriously. I can help you understand the behaviour and establish safer ways to manage and improve it.
Puppy Behaviour - Getting professional help early can prevent small problems from becoming established habits and big problems in later life. As a puppy owner, I can help you with toilet training, biting, jumping, barking, recall, settling, socialisation and everyday manners.

About me
I was born in North Kent and raised among dogs. My mother fostered dogs, often struggling to find them permanent homes because she loved them dearly! At one point, we had seven dogs, mainly Labradors and some Shih Tzus. They were a significant part of my life, and I actively participated in their training, helping to walk and retrain them to prepare them for their new owners.
I attended college and studied business and marketing management. After graduation, I realised that my roles in business weren’t fulfilling or enjoyable. Luckily, my mother, who had relocated to another part of the country, was a successful Bark Busters behaviour therapist and trainer. During a visit and stay with her, I saw that this could be the ideal career for me. A way to combine my love for dogs with helping people better connect with their pets. I applied, underwent extensive training, and it turned out to be the best decision of my life.
My family has two dogs that previously struggled with behavioural issues. Buster, a 10-year-old Labrador, was reactive to other dogs and would pull on the lead. Using Bark Busters' calm, positive methods, I now enjoy walks with him, as he can run off-lead and have fun. Our other dog, Enzo, is a Cockerpoo who came to us as a puppy for my younger sister. He initially displayed typical puppy behaviours such as chewing furniture, toilet accidents, and biting with his needle teeth. As a Cockerpoo, he required a lot of training to respond to requests. It was challenging, but now, at 4 years old, he's a well-behaved and lovely dog I am proud of.
Whether you are a new or experienced dog owner with an ongoing or newly emerged behaviour problem, have a rescue dog who needs help settling, have a new puppy and want to give them the best start in life, or would like advice before getting a new puppy, I would love to help. Please contact me for a no-obligation chat so we can explore how we can work together to get you the dog you've always wanted.
Great experience with Sydney Coleman
After just one session with Sydney, our 10 month old cockapoo was already vastly improved in her walking and her excessive barking. Sydney took the time to really get to know us and Minnie, and then gave us some invaluable advice, which completely changed the way we walk Minnie, so walks are now much more relaxing and calming. She has also greatly improved Minnie’s anxiety which has reduced her barking. We are continuing to work with Sydney, who is always responsive to our contact, sends helpful tips and advice through regularly, and we are about to meet with her for our third training session. Thanks Sydney x !
